This project involved replacing the existing, ageing electric actuators on the filter system and clarifiers at the Turitea WTP with new Kinetrol pneumatic actuators and custom designed and built pneumatic control system.

Supply and Installation of 58 new actuators including all airlines and control cables as follows:

  • 6 valves per filter, for 8 filters (48 valves)
  • 1 discharge valve for the backwash pumps
  • 8 inlet valves for the clarifiers
  • 1 Surge Tank Inlet valve
  • 3 local control panels including electrical control equipment, air reservoirs, solenoids, filters, and all pipework required as follows:
    • 1 to operate control valves locally/remotely and automatically for filters 1 to 4
    • 1 to operate control valves locally/remotely and automatically for filters 5 to 8
    • 1 to operate control valves locally/remotely and automatically for the clarifier inlet and drain valves as well as the surge tank valve and filter to stream valve

During this project there were significant variations due to the condition of existing equipment, valves and valve extensions that were identified during the works.

We worked with PNCC to undertake condition assessments as the works progressed and reported our findings and recommendations. This enabled PNCC to make informed decisions on replacing assets to ensure future reliable operation of their water treatment plant.
